Some of these adventurers embarked on the “new” Hidden Lake Trail just to realize their mistake a few minutes later and look for a proper place to descend the hill and continue on with the hike. Free from snow, this self-made trail stood out among the white idyll, confusing the just arrived hikers. Although the official path swirled around a small hill here, many visitors mistakenly climbed the peak. Moreover, it was to blame for our slow walking.Īpart from it, only one more obstacle awaited the hikers at the end of the first section of the Hidden Lake Trail. It constantly climbed uphill, but nothing was too impossible. The trail that started behind the Logan Pass Visitor Center looked easy. ![]() Words couldn’t describe how grateful I felt at that moment and already ached to see what was at the end of the Hidden Lake Overlook hike. Mesmerizing green meadows (known as the Hanging Gardens) touched with yellow wildflowers spread on miles on end, stealing my heart. ![]() If the front view of the Logan Pass Visitor Center had such a strong effect on me, the area behind it left me speechless. “It how I’ve alway pictured rural Switzerland”, I couldn’t help but think. LASIK surgery thins the cornea, which can make it harder to diagnose early glaucoma. Since it doesn't have any symptoms in the early stages, ophthalmologists screen for it by checking the pressure in your eye. Without treatment, it can cause blindness. The cause of glaucoma increased fluid pressure in the eye pressing on the optic nerve. If you have severe dry eye syndrome, you shouldn't have LASIK, as the surgery cuts the nerves involved in producing tears. About half of people 60 to 74 years old and up to 70% of people ages 75 and older have cataracts. Most people have some clouding in the lens of their eye by the age of 60. However, there are some age-related issues that could mean LASIK is not the right choice for you. A review of 424 LASIK patients in their 40s through 60s showed that outcomes were generally similar regardless of age, but older patients were slightly more likely to need a repeat treatment or enhancements. While the minimum age for LASIK surgery is 18, there is no age limit as long as your eyes are healthy and your vision is stable. This interferes with the focus of near and distant objects. On repeated playthroughs, you'll have a better idea of the pros and cons of each encounter, but there's enough randomisation to keep things fresh. There are sometimes options in those encounters but they're not particularly challenging - will you search a house or wake its sleeping inhabitants, or choose to dig deeper into a creepy cave rather than bolting for the exit? Pick a direction, or delve into whatever cave or building is by the roadside, and you'll either move onward or trigger a brief encounter, described in text. On the small randomised maps, movement is turn-based, the hero and his entourage pausing whenever they reach a junction or point of interest. Outside of combat, which I'll discuss later, control is as basic as can be. You'll often be fighting with a single unit and it's rare to have more characters in play than you can count on one hand. Rather than sprawling campaigns, multi-tiered city construction and armies containing hundreds of mythological beasties, Crowntakers has a straightforward story of usurpation and vengeance. Last, I had to ask him about his really heavy bottles. He quickly goes into his thoughts on European wines and the differences between his approach. ![]() His wines (at least those that I have tried) are ready to drink right from release, but could likely age well for quite some time as well. In this longest clip, I ask Eric about his winemaking style, essentially. Perhaps directly related to the past clip, Eric talks about the importance of farming organically and his views on biodynamic certification. Perhaps to no surprise, Eric dove right in and expressed some of his frustrations. Sensing that Eric really does not hesitate to speak his mind, I thought I would poke the bear a bit and see if there was any aspect of the wine industry that rubbed him the wrong way. We then pivoted to that other topic, COVID, which I know everyone is sick of talking about, but it still affects the hospitality industry more than perhaps any other industry. ![]() I ask Eric if he thinks this is now the “new normal” if this is going to be a yearly occurrence in the wine industry. It is difficult to talk to any winemaker on the west coast who has not been affected in some way by the well-documented wild fires that seem to have quickly become a way of life. In this clip, he talks a bit about a podcast that he did not air… I have listened to several episodes and he has some particularly interesting guests. We jump into the Popping Corks podcast, which Eric downplays quite a bit. Once again, a quick warning: Eric does not shy away from “colorful” language… Last, I push him a bit about his use of extremely heavy bottles, coming away from our interaction with a little more nuanced view. In today’s videos we discover some rather unfortunate news (he’s a Notre Dame fan), but also delve a bit into his fairly popular podcast, Popping Corks with Eric Jensen. We then pivot a bit to the state of the California wine industry today, as Eric sees it, with perhaps the two most pressing issues: global heating (and the accompanying fires) and COVID-19. In those videos, I learned a bit about what was behind the man that has become a bit of an icon in Paso Robles and California winemaking circles. Last week, I published the first few snippets from my interview with Eric Jensen. ![]() |
